Hack

A New Play by Jordyn Stoessel

Hack tells the story of a young woman who achieves overnight YouTube stardom after her "What I Eat in a Day" video goes viral. As a budding, unqualified wellness vlogger, she is sponsored by a fasting clinic to embark on a month-long supervised water fast. Isolation and starvation give way to introspection as our main character comes to terms with her strained relationship to food and the great responsibility she wields as a public figure. This play explores themes of disordered eating, the unchecked power of the modern "influencer", and America's obsession with diet culture.

Hack was presented at Boston University as a STAMP Production (2021) and participated in the 2022 SheNYC New Play Festival in partnership with MEDA (Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association). It was selected as a finalist for the Moxie Arts Incubator and a semi-finalist for the 2023 NAPSeries New Play Festival.
